How did Jesus die? I’ve never really learned all of the facts/thoughts on this.
Obviously he was crucified, but did he die from dehydration, starvation? What exactly killed him? I realize he went through great beatings and pain…but he was alive on the cross for quite sometime, wasn’t he? What exactly killed him?

Well, if the stories in the gospels are to believed, it certainly wouldn’t have been from starvation. That takes a long time. I would suspect either loss of blood or suffocation.
During a normal crucifixion, the way the subject is hung they need to pull themselves up every time they breathe. Eventually they tire out and are simply no longer able to pull themselves up, and so they suffocate to death.
But he may have died before that due to loss of blood from his previous treatment.

Regarding the question: “but he was alive on the cross for quite sometime, wasn’t he?. Actually according to what the Bible says, Pilate was expecting the crucifixion to last longer. A long suffering pain was part of what made the process so dreaded I suppose.
It appears that from the time the crucifixion of Christ started until he breathed his last breath was about 6 hours.
Mark 15:25 states that the crucifixion started in the 3rd hour, which I assume to mean 3 a.m.
To arrive at the duration of how long Christ suffered on the cross you need to jump to Mark 15:33-34 which tells at that Christ died in the 9th hour. You can also check out Luke 23:44-46.
