Genesis 1

I thought this was cool and found it today~

I know this is semi long, but it’s a good read. I’m not sure how well the whole “copy and paste” the post is going to turn out, but if it turns out like crap, you can just go to the link. I told you I would send you the complications of genesis 1 and I had a friend type this up. But if this doesn’t show up, and I don’t think the picture that was in his post here is the link just in case.

It is post #85 Have fun!! Love ya!~Hope

“Let’s take a look at what the Bible says about the creation event. And I’m not going to be looking at the word-substitutions believers often use to avoid dealing with what the book actually says. The thread asks for “anything” in the Bible that isn’t true. So clearly we’re talking about what the book says and not the bait and switch games that usually go on to provide an escape from the false claims of the Bible.

(Genesis 1:2) The Earth is formed already covered in water and this water is shown to be liquid in Genesis 1:9 where we also find the claim that the earth was completely covered in water.

GEN 1:2
And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

(Genesis 1:6-7) The atmosphere is formed around the Earth to separate the water below from the water above the “firmament”.

GEN 1:6-7
And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters. And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so.

(Genesis 1:9) The water flows into the valley and the first dry land emerges. So the water must be liquid.

GEN 1:9
And God said, Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear: and it was so.

(Genesis 1:11) Plants begin growing on the Earth.

GEN 1:11
And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so.

(Genesis 1:14-16) God creates the sun, moon and stars.

GEN 1:14-16
And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years.
And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so.
And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also.

Oops! This means we’ve had liquid water and plants growing without a source of heat. The source of heat and light for the Earth is the sun. How cold might the Earth be if the sun didn’t exist? Well, with no source of heat it would tend to be about the temperature of space which is -454°F. Ever try to grow plants or keep water liquid when the temperature is below zero? How about when the temperature is only 5°F above absolute zero? It’s clearly not possible.

But what else did we see in those first few verses of Genesis which simply aren’t possible? How does a planet capture and retain liquid water? It does so through its atmosphere. But the Earth here is claimed to have already been covered with water, and received an atmosphere later.

* So we have water covering a planet which lacks the mechanism required to capture and retain water.
* We have liquid water in cryogenic temperatures
* We have plants growing without light.
* We have plants growing in temperatures so cold that steel would shatter like glass.

Anything else?

Well, since the OP asks, take a good look at Genesis 1:14 and Genesis 1:15 and see where it claims the sun, moon and stars were created — “in the firmament”. So it appears we are being told that the sun, with a diameter of about 870,000 miles was formed within the Earth’s atmosphere which extends for only 350-miles above the planet. Of course we all know that as stars go, the sun isn’t very big. It’s not even big enough to form a black hole when it dies. The diameter of the moon is 2,160 miles so even it can’t fit within the 350-mile depth of the Earth’s atmosphere. And of course we all know that the moon is some 240,000 miles beyond Earth and the sun is closer to 93-million miles away. The other stars are all much further away.

But to be fair, without a knowledge of the solar-system and the universe beyond, when you look into the sky, it does seem possible that these bodies of light might well be shining from under a protective dome which just happens to be another, less common, definition for the word “firmament” and is present in the few ancient drawings based upon the original Hebrew of the Old Testament. And where do these drawings show the sun, moon and stars? They’re right where the Bible says they should be; within the Earth’s firmament.

Of course when people today read the Bible, they stray away from these claims or start substituting words. So they can defend what they say, they just can’t defend what the Bible actually says because the Bible is demonstrably wrong.

And for all of this we never even had to leave page one of Genesis.

So what if we didn’t understand the true configuration of the Earth, the solar system and the galaxy in which we live? Suppose we knew no more about the Earth than did people 2,000 years ago. What might we think when we gazed into the sky? Might it look like the sun, moon and stars were much closer? Would we have any idea of the actual distances involved? Would we recognize that the planet was a sphere or might we have no concept of how gravity works and conclude that if the planet were spherical, we could only stand on top because we would fall off the sides and bottom? How might we describe the Earth and assume it to have formed.

As people who have a good understanding of the Earth’s shape, location and relative position to the sun, moon and stars, it might be very difficult for us to try to imagine what we might think of the Earth, moon and sun if we didn’t know what we know about them. Fortunately, we do have some ancient etchings which show exactly what some people believed as concerns the configuration of the Earth, moon and sun.

For any of us it is readily apparent that this illustration is highly erroneous. So where were such ideas spawned? Well, in this case, the etching was originally produced by those to whom Hebrew was the native language. And the guide used to produce this diagram of the Earth, sun and moon was the original Hebrew text of Genesis. This is what the Bible claims as the configuration of the Earth, sun, moon, stars, firmament, heaven and even the “water above the firmament”.

Take out an English KJV and read through the first page while looking at the diagram. This is what the Bible claims. It’s clearly not correct.”

  1. Hi Hope!

I clicked into your blog from Pistol Pete’s.

OT: As a mother, I want to tell you how horrified I’d be if one of my kids shared their first and last name, location, date of birth and specific occupation which happens to narrow down quite a bit where weirdos can find you on the world wide web. I’m not your mother though so I can’t make you remove your last name, city, and DOB, but on behalf of mothers everywhere, I highly recommend it for your safety. Do what you want. I’m just saying … /OT

In response to this post, I’m addressing the copy and paste and not necessarily the rest of that thread.

The very first thing that jumped out at me about that post is that the OP conveniently missed a key verse! 🙂

3 And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. 4 God saw that the light was good, and He separated the light from the darkness. 5 God called the light “day,” and the darkness he called “night.” And there was evening, and there was morning—the first day.

There’s your source for heat. We are not told about the source, just that it was there on day one and that its reach was limited.

The other thing I’ll mention for whatever it’s worth is the theory of the Oort Cloud. If I recall correctly, there is a thought out there that the “waters above” refer to a cloud that surrounds the universe, from which comets may originate.

  2. Mrs Nicklebee is correct..
there was light and heat (remember, scientists say the universe is expanding…)

and the nickel iron molten interior generates heat and produces magnetic fields.

Logically, God prepares the earth with food (much like the forced-growing in a green house).. before he makes some regular order in terms of a day and night and seasons.

    To recap the sequence:
    1-There is light,
    3-sea, earth, food,
    4-order in time and seasons
    5-then fish and fowl
6-beasts of man, food for both
    7-and God rests.

Genesis calls on us to think outside the 20th-21st century box.

Even science can’t come up with a better beginning… but has to lift it right out of Genesis. I am referring to the big bang.
